Snow hinders relief in quake-affected Tibet
Snowy weather and landslides have hindered rescue and relief efforts in quake-affected areas in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region.
Roads, power and communication remain cut off in Rongxar Town, Tingri County in Tibet. Snow drifts reached 10 cm on the road leading to the town, where houses collapsed following the 8.1-magnitude quake in Nepal.
China's relief operation in Nepal
The relief operation for Nepal quake victims is being stepped up here as aid materials and personnel are arriving from neighboring countries including China and India, said officials on Monday.
A 58-strong Chinese Government Medical Team arrived in Nepal Monday morning to carry out a humanitarian mission after the country was struck by a powerful earthquake at midday Saturday.
The medical team comprises experts from medical, pharmacy, osteology, nursing and psychology departments, among others.
China's rescue operation in Nepal
A 55-strong team affiliated with the People's Liberation Army (PLA) left for Nepal on Monday morning to help with rescue operations following Saturday's 8.1-magnitude earthquake.The team arrived via a PLA Air Force plane that departed from Kunming, capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province. Another team of 45 soldiers will leave for Nepal on Tuesday.
The 100 soldiers are taking with them four sniffer dogs, five recovery vehicles and rescue equipment, including life detectors and entry tools.
