A photo grab of Li Na’s Twitter account shows the couple with their new-born baby girl. |
Retired Chinese tennis star Li Na posted a photo of her newborn baby girl's foot on her Sina Weibo and Twitter account early on Wednesday. The baby is called Alisa.
The country's first grand slam winner announced her pregnancy during the Australian Open this January, merely one year after she claimed her second grand slam title. She said the baby is the best gift she has ever received. Li also said she wants to be a housewife from now on. "Because of the tennis, I owe a lot to my family and now is the time for me to change."
Busy schedule during pregnancy
The retired mother-to-be appeared in public even more than she did during career life. She traveled non-stop to Shenzhen, Shanghai and then to Melbourne, where she firstly announced her pregnancy in January. She was awarded the Exceptional Achievement award at April's annual Laureus World Sports Awards in Shanghai at eight-month pregnancy.
Other honors for Li after retirement include WTA Finals ambassador, “friend of Australian Open” and China Children and Teenagers' Fund ambassador. Chinese Hong Kong filmmaker Peter Ho-Sun Chan said in May he was making a movie about Li based on her autobiography.
